Inaugural Live Event

How we cause humanity's ultimate triumph - An inquiry.

What if it’s time?

What if it’s time for humanity’s ultimate triumph?

A victory to inspire us all and make good on what we’ve been given.

I know this might sound ridiculous. We are so mean. So greedy. So short-sighted.

Humanity is entrenched in a quagmire of power struggles and bullshit.

But this can all be dissolved. Replaced. We can reorganize all of it.

We simply need enough people (and will) heading in the same direction.

What if we all row together, in the same direction?

UMA (oo-muh) exists to engender the teamwork required for humanity’s triumph.

Governments will not do this. Corporations will not. They do not have the mandate. (Not yet, anyway!)

Even religious organizations are not likely to help, at least not at first.

We, the people, will do it. It’s up to us. We are humanity.

We will do this from the bottom up. And the top down. Working our best methods.

One of these methods is Inquiry: questioning, searching, requesting, discovering.

UMA is launching its live events (uma.live) with an inquiry at Burning Man.

We’ve partnered with Gaian Airship, located at 9:15 & F, to host this conversation on Tuesday, 8/26, at 2pm. Please let me know if you’ll be there!

After connecting with everyone, learning their names, and offering refreshment, here’s the conversation we’re hosting:

Welcome.

Welcome to How We Cause Humanity’s Ultimate Triumph - An Inquiry. Thank you for being here.

My name is Joshua. I’m gonna say just a few things about myself and then we’ll get into the inquiry.

I grew up in Maine, where my parents and brother still live. I went to college. I studied economics, philosophy, and music. And then I moved to LA.

I wanted to be a rockstar. A singer. An inspiration for the world.

But I did not know how to ask for help. I was foolish. I got very lost.

At 30, I had a divine revelation. I surrendered. I started listening. I discovered the world of transformation and began my training. I have now been supervising and/or leading transformational programs for the past 20 years.

I now live in the San Francisco East Bay with my wife, her mom, a tiny dog, and three pairs of rabbits. It’s a household of disruptive cuteness. This is my second time at Burning Man.

I’ve recently shut down the beverage company I founded in 2015. This was very difficult. The company was my baby. It was to be my legacy. The failure brought me to my knees many, many times. It was there on my knees that I confronted what I’m doing with my life.

I don’t have much time left now. Maybe 30 good years. Maybe. If things go well.

What must I do to be proud of myself when I die?

There’s only one thing that will really do it - Go for the ultimate triumph.

Am I not here to make all that I can of this life, of this opportunity? And am I not human?

What is the greatest thing possible for a human, for all of us?

What is humanity’s ultimate triumph?

Am I not here to cause that?

And you too?

And so here we are, at Burning Man, ready to dive into this! Thank you for being here! This is the first-ever live group conversation for this exciting endeavor.

So, let’s get right to it. How do we cause humanity’s ultimate triumph?

What is it, even? And why should we do it?

I’ll share my assumptions. And then we’ll look together. I’ll play some music. Please allow yourself to be inspired. The more inspired you get, the better! It will be better for all of us!

Here’s the deal:

You and I have been given an opportunity. A miraculous chance. We do not know how or why we have been given this opportunity. It is beyond us. It is an actual miracle.

We’ve been given life. Somehow, miraculously, we are here! In this earthly world. Alive! Living a life! And not just any life.

We have been given life as human beings!

We are not ants. We are not trees. We’ve been given special gifts.

We have been given the freedom to choose. The freedom to choose who we are and what our lives are for. And we have been given the power to create. The power to create in many media, and especially in language.

These are astounding gifts. They are miraculous. We don’t know how or why they were given to us. Or how long they will be ours.

Will we honor what we have been given?

Let’s assume we will. Let’s assume that you and I are up for the opportunity we’ve been given.

What do we choose to create?

Let’s assume we want to create as much greatness as we possibly can. What might that be? What maximum greatness could we achieve?

Not individually. That’s rather small. And not just as a collection of individuals. But collectively, all of us together, as a team. Not as human beings, but as humanity.

What is our greatest possible triumph, as humanity?

What does it look like?

What is the vision for us to fulfill?

What is the vision for all of us?

What does it look like?

What is the vision for us to fulfill? The vision for all of us?

JFK famously said, “We choose to go to the Moon... We choose to go to the Moon in this decade… because that goal will serve to organize and measure the best of our energies and skills, because that challenge is one that we are willing to accept, one we are unwilling to postpone, and one we intend to win.”

And just like that, I am saying that we choose to cause humanity’s ultimate triumph, and in the next decade or two, and make it last for a very long time, at least many thousands of years, because this goal, this mission, will bring out the best in us all, and because it is a challenge worthy of our lives, worthy of what we’ve been given.

And just like going to the moon, we need a clear, compelling vision. Only this time, it’s for the whole world.

What is the vision of humanity’s ultimate triumph for the world to hold up as a beacon?

What are the qualities of this vision? What is the nature of a vision for all humanity?

[LIVE INQUIRY]

  • Universal - all people, all cultures, all classes, all races, all religions.

  • Compelling - Inspiring. Epic. Breathtaking. More exciting than space travel. Better than riches. The ultimate triumph.

  • Clear - Easy to picture. Realizable. Measurable. Did we really do it?

Let’s spend a few minutes visualizing, making clear in our minds, manifesting, if you will. A world that works for us all, with no one and nothing left out. A safe and beautiful home. A human culture built for thriving. Humanity organized globally for all of us to thrive, and live our lives as a contribution to an all-inspiring whole.

Please get into a meditative position and close your eyes. Allow yourself to envision our ultimate triumph, to see it fulfilled.

And make it simple.

What do you see? What is the vision?
